In the memory of 12 year old Melinda Rose from Canada, Rose Day is observed on 22nd September every year. She was diagnosed with Askin’s Tumour, a rare form of Blood Cancer. Contrary to her doctor’s prediction that she will not survive more than a couple of weeks, she lived for six months. During that period, she cheered up other cancer patients and their caregivers with her letters, poems, and emails. Rose day is observed to spread a message to all cancer patients that they can fight the disease with strong willpower and spirit and there are many individuals and services that are providing support to them medically, financially and emotionally.
We, at Coimbatore Cancer Foundation in collaboration with Valavadi Narayanaswamy Cancer Centre at G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital planned to mark this day by giving a rose, which is a symbol of love, and fruits to all cancer patients. All the Trustees from CCF, Dr. Raghupathy Velusawamy, CEO, GKNM Hospital and students from National Model School participated in the Rose day.
