World No Tobacco Day

The “Children Against Tobacco (CAT) – The Coimbatore Chapter” was launched by the guest of honour, Ms. Mercy Ommen, Correspondent, Stanes Higher Sec. School. The project will be implemented in schools in Coimbatore with a core team comprising of two students, guided by a faculty. This CAT team would educate other students and their parents on the hazards of tobacco use. They would also sensitize the community about the ill-effects of tobacco usage and motivate them for cessation. As an ongoing project, competitions on tobacco eradication would be organized among students. The CAT core team would plan an advocacy program to create and monitor a tobacco-free zone up to 100 yards from their respective institutes. Regular meeting would be organized to share, evaluate and to initiate new activities.

A mobile photo booth designed with messages on hazards of tobacco use was flagged-off by Dr. Somasundaram, Deputy Director of Health Services, Coimbatore Corporation. This mobile photo booth went across the city to create awareness for the same by distributing IEC materials.
